Kingsgate reaches for the top
Mivan, the developers of the 162,000 sq ft Kingsgate shopping centre extension in Dunfermline, today confirmed that its Topping Out ceremony for the scheme will take place next week, Tuesday 16 October 2007.
The Topping out ceremony is a major step forward to completion, traditionally marking the completion of the highest point of the project, and is an important milestone for the development. The extended Kingsgate is on schedule for opening in Autumn 2008 – just 12 months time. Work will now focus on preparing the internal space ready for retailer and leisure operator fit-outs.
The formal ceremony will be conducted on the roof-level car park of Kingsgate - watched by an audience including local dignitaries, councillors and representatives from the development and construction team. The Provost of Fife, Mrs Frances Melville, and Stephen Elliott, Group Finance Director of Mivan will preside over the event.
Stephen Elliott, Group Finance Director of Mivan, said:
“There has been fantastic progress on site, with a great deal of hard work from all the development and construction team. This is a great milestone, not only for Kingsgate, but for the City of Dunfermline. An extended Kingsgate is an exciting addition to the city and we are well on the way to delivering a major boost to shopping, leisure and jobs in Dunfermline.”
Martin Lynch, Project Manager for the development, added:
“The topping out ceremony next week will mark another milestone for the development. The construction works are on programme, with the framework structure for the building nearing completion. The building is progressing towards having a watertight structure by the end of the year after which the focus will switch to getting the internal space ready for retailers fit out commencing with Debenhams store”.
Already Dunfermline’s main shopping destination, and only 14 miles north of Edinburgh, the £50 million project will refurbish and extend the scheme to an overall size of 372,000 sq ft (34,560 sq m) - almost double the existing retail offer. With one year to go, the new Kingsgate shopping centre promises to deliver an exciting and contemporary shopping experience in Dunfermline, strengthening the town’s appeal as the ultimate shopping destination in Fife.
The new development will extend the shopping centre by 162,000 sq ft (15,050 sq m), adding 27 new shops to the wealth of retailers already in town. The development is also securing new names to Dunfermline for the first time - Debenhams has agreed to anchor the extension with a 70,000 sq ft flagship store, its largest in the region. High street retailer New Look is also on board and will occupy 17,000 sq ft of space over two levels, substantially increasing the size of their current offering in the town. The new extension is also supported by a new 700+ space car park.
The letting agents for the scheme are Eric Young & Co and Cushman & Wakefield.
